Trump says Kyiv may have to exchange land for peace as Ukrainian drones target a significant Russian gas production.

Ukraine's KYIV (AP) — Russian and Kazakh authorities reported Sunday that Ukrainian drones had hit a large gas processing facility in southern Russia, causing a fire and forcing it to stop importing gas from Kazakhstan. In the meantime, in the most recent apparent reversals on how to achieve peace, U.S. President Donald Trump hinted that Kyiv could have to cede land in exchange for an end to Moscow's invasion, which has lasted more than three and a half years.

With an annual capacity of 45 billion cubic meters, the Orenburg facility, operated by the state-owned gas giant Gazprom, is part of a production and processing complex that is among the largest of its kind in the world. It is situated in a region of the same name close to the Kazakh border. In addition to Orenburg's own oil and gas fields, it manages gas condensate from Kazakhstan's Karachaganak field. Yevgeny Solntsev, the regional governor, said the drone strikes destroyed a portion of the plant and burned a workshop there. Citing a letter from Gazprom, the Kazakh Energy Ministry stated on Sunday that the plant was momentarily unable to handle gas coming from Kazakhstan "due to an emergency situation following a drone strike."

In exchange for a stop to Moscow's aggression, Trump seems to revert to his demands that Ukraine give up its claim to land that it has lost to Russia. Trump said, "Well, he's going to take something," in response to a question about whether Russian President Vladimir Putin would be amenable to ending the conflict "without taking considerable property from Ukraine," in an interview with Fox News on Thursday. He owns a lot of property, and they got into a fight. Trump declared, "He's won certain property." "We are the only country that enters a conflict, wins it, and then withdraws." The interview was done before to Trump's conversation with Putin and Zelenskyy last week, but it was broadcast on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures" on Sunday.
